Mojang Studios is teaming up with legendary arcade company Play Mechanix, who have designed an awesome arcade cabinet for Minecraft Dungeons. The Minecraft Dungeons present on this machine are not quite the same version of Minecraft Dungeons that you know, as Mojang Studios has made many changes to make Minecraft Dungeons fit better in an arcade environment.
The arcade machine supports four-player local co-op, with “Melee”, “Dodge”, and “Range” buttons for each player (in addition to movement). The game will take players through nine familiar levels to battle hordes of vicious enemies and see Minecraft Dungeons in a different light (and sometimes from different angles!).
However, Mojang Studios has shaken things up massively with a new mechanic: cards. Players will have a chance to win up to 60 physical trading cards to play Minecraft Dungeons: Arcade, with each card representing a different weapon, pet, skin, or item. Each session, players will be able to scan up to five of the cards in their collection to equip their hero with all the gear and class they need to win. To earn cards, players will fill their “card counters” while playing by defeating monsters, completing levels, and more. The more you play, the more chances you have to collect all the cards!
Minecraft Dungeons: Arcade is currently heading to a few select arcades across North America for testing, and will expand further in the future. Hopefully an arcade near you will feature Minecraft Dungeons: Arcade and its unique take on the established Minecraft Dungeons formula. Either way, it’s exciting to see Mojang Studios come up with another way to play Minecraft Dungeons.
