How to get a repair in Minecraft?
Mending can be obtained by looting treasure chests spawned in Dungeons, Desert Temples, Mine Shafts, Ancient Cities, Raider Outposts, Underwater Ruins, and Wooded Mansions.
Fishing also has a 0.8% to 1.9% chance to give you a random enchanted book, which greatly reduces the rate of getting a repair book this way.
So far, the best way to repair yourself in Minecraft is to trade with Librarian villagers. They have a great chance of selling a repair book for around 20 emeralds. And if you cured them from zombification, the price can be lower, up to 1 emerald.
How does mending actually work?
Whenever an item contains a repair enchantment and is placed in your main hand, off hand, or one of the 4 armor slots, the item will be repaired as you gain experience. Each experience repairs 2 durability.
